About Caterpillar Puppets

Caterpillar Puppets was created in 1976 by husband and wife team Joe and Ronna Leon. Together they design every aspect of their productions, from writing and puppet making to performing.

Both graduated from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Joe with a degree in art, and Ronna with a degree in literature. From the start they realized puppetry was an art they could devote their lives to.

Joe and Ronna were selected to represent young American puppeteers at an international puppetry conference in Moscow, and have performed with the orchestra of Canada's National Arts Center. They have been the "house puppeteers" for the San Francisco Symphony's annual Deck The Halls Christmas C0ncerts, and for Marine World/Africa U.S.A. and the California State Fair. Joe and Ronna have received numerous awards, inluding grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, and the San Francisco Education Fund. Over the decades Caterpillar Puppets has given thousands of performances in schools, libraries, fairs, shopping centers and theme parks.

Since 1976 Joe and Ronna have been happy to call the San Francisco Bay Area their home.
